On all but 10 stations, one of Eric Firing's RDI lowered acoustic doppler profilers (LADCP)
was mounted inside the rosette frame. Two different LADCP's were used, a narrow band
operating at 300kHz and a broad band operating at 150kHz. The former was intended to
be the principal instrument, but suffered a failure at station 291. The broad band LADCP
was mounted at station 294 and used thereafter.

Woce format CTD files(.wct) prepared Feb 2002 were put on-line. Prior to June 2, 2005, the woce format zip file, i05ect.zip, contained exchange format files in error.
The U.S. WOCE Indian Ocean Survey consisted of 9 cruises covering the period December 1,1994 to January 22,1996.All of the cruises used the R/V Knorr operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. A total of 1244 hydrographic stations were occupied with radiocarbon sampling on 366 stations.
Replaced DELC13 decimal-1-data with decimal-2-data from same original data files. Notes file sent to Jerry with details.

Jenkins helium/tritium received Oct 17, 2000 not on web. Lupton helium for I08N received Apr 13, 2000 not on web. ODF Sample Logs indicate Lupton took helium samples on I05E part of cruise but data (Stas: 398, 404, 409, 416, 420/2, 422, 427, 430, 433, 437 & 440) not in i8nwoce.csv and I cannot find them in i05e original data. 20001024WHPOSIOSRA First header line has "WHP-ID TEST". Believe should be "WHP-ID I08N, I05E"

CTD and bottle exchange files were put online.
ODF has discovered a small error in the algorithm used to convert ITS90 temperature calibration data to IPTS68. This error affects reported Mark III CTD temperature data for most cruises that occurred in 1992-1999. A complete list of affected data sets appears below.
ODF temperature calibrations are reported on the ITS90 temperature scale. ODF internally maintains these calibrations for CTD data processing on the IPTS68 scale. The error involved converting ITS90 calibrations to IPTS68. The amount of error is close to linear with temperature: approximately -0.00024 degC/degC, with a -0.00036 degC offset at 0 degC. Previously reported data were low by 0.00756 degC at 30 degC, decreasing to 0.00036 degC low at 0 degC. Data reported as ITS90 were also affected by a similar amount. CTD conductivity calibrations have been recalculated to account for the temperature change. Reported CTD salinity and oxygen data were not significantly affected.
Revised final data sets have been prepared and will be available soon from ODF (ftp://odf.ucsd.edu/pub/HydroData). The data will eventually be updated on the whpo.ucsd.edu website as well.
IPTS68 temperatures are reported for PCM11 and Antarktis X/5, as originally submitted to their chief scientists. ITS90 temperatures are reported for all other cruises.

Changes in the final data vs. previous release (other than temperature and negligible differences in salinity/oxygen):
S04P: 694/03 CTD data were not reported, but CTD values were reported with the bottle data. No conductivity correction was applied to these values in the original .sea file. This release uses the same conductivity correction as the two nearest casts to correct salinity.
AO94: Eight CTD casts were fit for ctdoxy (previously uncalibrated) and resubmitted to the P.I. since the original release. The WHP-format bottle file was not regenerated. The CTDOXY for the following stations should be significantly different than the original .sea file values:
009/01 013/02 017/01 018/01 026/04 033/01 036/01 036/02
I09N: The 243/01 original CTD data file was not rewritten after updating the ctdoxy fit. This release uses the correct ctdoxy data for the .ctd file. The original .sea file was written after the update occurred, so the ctdoxy values reported with bottle data should be minimally different.

An oceanographically-insignificant error in CTDTMP data for this cruise has been found (ca. -0.00024*T - 0.00036 degC). A data update is forthcoming. In the interim the corrected data files can be obtained from: ftp://odf.ucsd.edu/pub/HydroData/woce/crs
It was brought to my attention that the WOCE Pacific/Indian He-Tr data was not as yet made public. After submitting it to you last year, I had intended on going through it one more time to ensure there were no problems with it. Unfortunately, I have not had the time to do this. Is it possible, therefore, to release it as public data, and if there are any subsequent minor revisions, to make changes? I suspect there might be a few samples in the set that might have got through our initial quality control.

CTD, Bottle.
Directory I08N was moved from ftp-incoming.2000.02.14 into i08/i08n/original/1998.07.16_I08N_CTD_TALLEY. There are zipped ctd files inside the I08 directory along with a cfc file sent by Talley in July of 1998. Smethie CfC values were merged by S. Diggs in June of 1999, however these values do not match those sent by Talley. No mail regarding Talley's CFC submission could be found. There are also documentation files relevant to the data. To-be-merged table has not been updated.

Bottle data matched the one online, however summary and ctd data need to be uploaded they do not contain the most current version. Path to files pacific/p31/original/1998.11.17_P31_SA. No update of to_merge file was needed.
CTD
Replaced i05ect.zip with new version (same name) on website and CD2.0 site. New version is from Johnson @ ODF. Headers have expocodes switched to new version (without ""). Rezipped and replaced. All tables and associated files updated.
"Event log: SUM, Bottle: The bottle file has replaced the current online file. The finalized sumfile submitted by ODF has also been reformatted and has replaced the current online sumfile.
The CFCs (and CCL4) values have not changed and are identical to the previous values.
All table references have been updated to reflect this change. All notes on reformatting reside in the "original" subdirectory."
Merging Notes on I05E/I08N 316N145_7.
Due to updated bottle data file being submitted by ODF, current on-line parameters were remerged into the new bottle file. See notes below regarding this merge.

Changed expocode from 316N145/7 to 316N145_7.
Added name/date stamp.
Ran sumchk with no errors (warnings produced from truncated parameter list, but no formatting errors)
Edited file is called 316N1457_edt.sum and was also copied to i05esu.txt in this directory. This file was then copied to parent i05e directory to replace current online version.

I think I just ftp'ed 4 files to your /INCOMING directory i8nwoce.csv p13woce.csv p16cwoce.csv p19cwoce.csv ... of the same form as before, comma delimited columns of station, cast, bottle, %delta He3, delta He3 data flag, molal [He], [He] data flag.
I've just put a total of 13 files [carbon data measured in Indian (6 files) and Atlantic (7 files) oceans] to the WHPO ftp area. Please let me know if you get data okay.
Total CO2 and Alkalinity
The quality of the Ba data from most WOCE legs in the Indian Ocean turned out to be quite poor; far worse than attainable analytical precision (+/-20% as opposed to 2%). We recorded many vials which came back with loose caps and evaporation associated with that seems to be the primary problem. The only hope I have of producing a decent data set is to run both Ba and a conservative element simultaneously and then relating that to the original salinity of the sample. We will be taking delivery on a high resolution ICPMS here at OSU sometime this winter which would make the project analytically feasible and economical. I do not presently have the funds in hand to do this and so have archived the samples for the time being. I don't think the WHPO would derive any benefit from the present data set.

I have merged the CFC and CCL4 values into the I05E/I08N (316N145_7) bottle data file. These values are non-public until further notice and all values have been masked out of the version on our website. All relevant files and tables have been updated.
It is not public as far as I know. Can you please contact Bill Smethie and find out? Yes, it is ready for DQE.
This data is preliminary and cannot be made public. We have not
completed our quality control assessment of this data set. When we do
complete it we will submit another copy of the data to the WHP.
