The following files are now available online under 'Files as received', unprocessed by the CCHDO. 09AR19941213.exc.csv
Questionable deep nitrate and phosphate values have been flagged 3.
Expocode: 09AR9404_1; 09AR19941213 Ship: Aurora Australis Woce Line: SR3S4; P12 Note: As part of the final QC for GLODAPv2, the nutrient values for stations 2-4 of this cruise were found highly questionable. The precision is reasonable, but the several of the values are significantly biased relative to near neighbors from this cruise as well as other cruises. Comparisons were made in various dimensions and the results were always the same. The silicate values for stations 2:4 are particularly bad. Also some of the deep nitrate and phosphate values for these stations are also very highly suspect. For our work (at least) these highly questionable points have been flagged 3. This file contains those new flags, but should otherwise be the same as what you already have on-line. Whether or not CCHDO decides to adopt thee new flags is a judgment call. There are a few other samples in a few other cruises that I will be reporting soon. bob

t was decided at today's CCHDO meeting to merge or remerge CFCs for all WHP cruises in Mark Warner's CFC DQE file (Southern Ocean WHO lines). This will assure all that the CFCs for these cruises are indeed updated as intended. Danie and Sarilee will attend to this promptly. Danie will see that the sections of greatest urgency to Lynne receive top priority. The list of cruises in Mark's file was as follows: A21: EXPOCODE: 06MT11_5 A23: EXPOCODE: 74JC10_1 I06S: EXPOCODE: 35MFCIVA_1 MARGINEX: EXPOCODE: 09AR9604_1 S03_S04I: EXPOCODE: 09AR9404_1 S04A: EXPOCODE: 06AQANTIII_4 S04I: EXPOCODE: 320696_3 S04P: EXPOCODE: 90KDIOFFE6_1 SR04A_A12: EXPOCODE: 06AQANTX_4 SR04_ANTXV4: EXPOCODE: 06ANT15_4 It may be that the CFCs for the following cruises from the list above have already been updated: > sr04antxv4 > s04p > a23 > a21 But, to be certain, the CCHDO will update them as well. As far as why these cruises did not get updated with Mark's DQE'd CFCs, we have no idea. Sorry. All of the other ocean basins' CFCs were updated years ago. Jim Swift
I have put 3 data files in WHPO ftp INCOMING area. These files are the final CO2-related data and quality flags for WOCE sections A14 (L'ATALANTE 35A3CITHER3/1), A13 (L'ATALANTE 35A3CITHER3/2), and SR03/S04 (P12, 09AR9404_1).
Converted .xls file sent by Schlosser to Lynne Talley to a .csv file. Converted helium (their he4) and neon to WOCE units nmol/kg by multiplying by 44596000 (see email below from Bob Newton). Merged DELHE3, HELIUM, and NEON into online file. NEON did not have Q flags, so I set them to 2 except for obvious bad values that were outside the range, 0,10, which I set to 4.
The units are "ccSTP/g", i.e.: cubic centimeters of disolved helium gas per gram of seawater at standard temperature and pressure. That is what we work with here at the lab. There are two isotopes of helium, helium 3 and helium 4. Since helium 3 is on the order of 1 part per million of the total helium, the He4 measurement is (to the accuracy of the numbers reported) the total amount of helium gas in the water. Since there is VERY little helium disolved in the water, we multiply the values by 100,000,000, so that the numbers in the file are actually in units of cc/g divided by 100,000,000, or E-8 cc/g. The standard WOCE units for disolved helium gas are NMOL/KG (nanomols per kilogram). To convert from 10-8 ccSTP/g to NMOL/kg, one has to multiply by: 44596000/100,000,000 We would like the data posted in the public area of the WHPO website. Can you make the data conversion, or would you rather we do it?
attached please find the he-3 data from the P12/S03 cruise. it took a bit longer than expected to sort out the problem with station 49. it turned out that we had to linearize the samples for this station separately from the rest because the mass spectrometer was running at slightly different settings.
New PDF and text docs online.
Merged new ALKALI data submitted by Kozyr into online file (20020514WHPOSIOSA). Made new exchange file.
Moved new ALKALI file (sr03s04_newalk.txt) submitted by Kozyr from ftp-incoming to /usr/export/html-public/data/onetime/southern/s03/original/2002.06.11_S04-SR03_TILBROOK_NEWALKALI_KOZYR
Bronte Tilbrook from CSIRO has sent me new (corrected) Total Alkalinity values and quality flags for the Section SR03S04 cruise (EXPOCODE 09AR9404_1 WHP-ID P12 (S04/SR03) DATES 121394 TO 020295). I've made a merging of new data into the CDIAC data set for this cruise. I've put the final data file into your ftp /INCOMING area for you to change your data set alk numbers and quality flags.
Merged TCARBN and ALKALI into online file. Made new exchange file. Added TCARBN and ALKALI from file sent by Bronte Tilbrook to Lynne Talley. Found in whpo.ucsd.edu/data/onetime/southern/s03/original/2000.12.04_SR03_CARBON_TILBROOK.DIR/s04-sr03_carbon.csv Merged into online file s03hy.txt 19900105WHPOSIOSA
Here are my notes on merging TCARBN and ALKALI for S03: Added TCARBN and ALKALI from file sent by Bronte Tilbrook to Lynne Talley. Found in whpo.ucsd.edu/data/onetime/southern/s03/original/2000.12.04_SR03_CARBON_TILBROOK.DIR/s04-sr03_carbon.csv Merged into online file s03hy.txt 19900105WHPOSIOSA

created .ps files. created *check.txt file.
CTD has been converted to exchange using the new code and put online. Empty section ID's were filled in with AUR from R/V AURORA AUSTRALIS.
CTD had duplicate files in the ZIP archive and I have removed the extra files. Re-zipped the remainder and replaced the online zip CTD archive file.
Bottle file in exchange format was put online.
I have updated the very outdated DOC file with updated MS Word docs that were just sitting around. Now, the docs look better and I've added J. Bullister's 1997 CFC docs to the new PDF file online.
I have received the Carbon data for S04-SR03 (09AR9404_1) from Bronte Tilbrook (CSIRO) via Lynne Talley yesterday. Although the data are not in the WOCE format, there's enough information in them to make a WOCE-style bottle file which will enable us to merge these data into the existing bottle file.
A comma separated file is attached that contains the DIC and alkalinity data for the SR3 line and the part of the S4 line we did from about 120E to meet the S4P line near the Ross Sea (CTD2 - 57). The SR3 line starts about CTD 58. Missing data is represented by -9, the nitrite column shows all "-9". The quality control flags conform to the WOCE standard, but are in individual columns. This file was used by the US carbon group in their crossover analysis for the Pacific. According to Chris Sabine (who put the quality control flags in WOCE standards format), our data are in good shape. As far as I am aware there are no corrections applied to our DIC or alkalinity data. By the way, Chris sent me a file where he had combined the carbon and CFC data from John Bullister and Mark Warner. I guess Mark and John are giving you their data and if so, I can send the file with the CFC data in it. I will try and get the P11S carbon data to you in the next few weeks. For now, please do not make these data public access.
SUM, Bottle Files were moved into southern/s03/original/1999.12.23_P12_HY_SU_MR. There is a version online of S. Anderson's revised data. However Mark Rosenberg submitted more recent files that contain Quality 2 data.
After DPC meeting April, 2000 it was decided to delete P12 from Pacific table and move data to S03. this was done and S03 was added to the southern onetime lines.
as mentioned in my recent message, we will release our data with a flag that indicates that they are not yet final. We started the process of transferring the data and we will continue with the transfer during the next weeks. I had listed the expected order of delivery in my last message.
You can also make all the data for that cruise public. Submitted new CFC data file
All the CTD data associated with me should be made public. I thought we had taken care of this earlier, but it appears not. I'm a little unsure how the DQE process is supposed to work. I think only two of our cruises have so far been DQE'd; if your policy is to not release data publicly until it has been DQE'd, then that is OK too.
For P11A (09AR9391_2), there's no separate nitrite data, only total nitrate+nitrite. In fact the same applies to all our Aurora Australis WOCE cruises.
Arnold has completed his DQ evaluation of P12/S04I/PR12/SR03. I have put the files on whpo in /usr/export/ftp/pub/WHPO/S_ANDERSON/P12/DQE. p12_hy.dqe - the .sea file with Arnold's changes to the QUALT2 flags. p12_su.txt - the .sum file out.diff.p12 - a file containing only the lines where the QUALT1 and QUALT2 words are different (Arnold's changes). p12.dqe.rpt - Arnold's DQ evaluation report.
I have reformatted P12 (S04, SR03, PR12). Arnold is DQEing that line now. I have reformatted P14N. George will DQE that line next. The .sea, .sum, and readme files for these cruises are on whpo in /usr/export/ftp/pub/WHPO/S_ANDERSON/P12 or P14N.
I have just corrected and updated all records pertaining to P12/S04I. This line is also know as SR03 and PR12, the *correct* expocode is 09AR9404_1 (not 09AR9508/1), but all references to the previous expocode should be retained in our records. The data files to date are NON-PUBLIC and the password is the same as P12.
I've just finished resending all the data for the Aurora Australis cruises au9404, au9501, au9604 and au9601. For the record, I sent them all to you last May, but I guess you were receiving heaps of data at the time. Please consider all these cruises as submitted for WOCE assessment. Here's what I have just sent: 1. au9404 - sections SR3(P12) and S4 107 x *.ctd files 1 x *.sea file 1 x *.sum file contents.doc contents of data report a9404.doc data report cfc_repo.doc CFC report (unpublished document) Note: the 3 *.doc files are MS WORD documents (I ftp'd them as binary files - you can't see the graphs on the screen, but I they should still come out when you print). 2. au9501 - section SR3(P12) 62 x *.ctd files 1 x *.sea file 1 x *.sum file 3. au9604 - Antarctic Margin Experiment (Marginex) 131 x *.ctd files 1 x *.sea file 1 x *.sum file 4. au9601 - section SR3(P12) 66 x *.ctd files 1 x *.sea file 1 x *.sum file 5. big.doc the data report for cruises au9501,au9604 and au9601 (MS WORD document) Notes: * Could you please confirm that the files for all 4 cruises came through okay (I ftp'd them to the INCOMING directory). * Cruise au9404 above is the cruise 09AR9404-1 that you asked about in your email. * Unfortunately I can't help with the Franklin cruise 09FA693 (I only deal with Aurora Australis data). You'll have to talk to Kim.Finney@marine.csiro.au (she's the data products manager at CSIRO) or John Church. Note however that the southern portion of P11 was done on the Aurora Australis (cruise 09AR9391 which has been at the WOCE office for a long time). * Other Aurora Australis cruises already at the WOCE office are: 09AR9309 09AR9391 09AR9407 * I still owe you Aurora cruise au9101 (an old one).
I've just ftp'd a data report to the INCOMING directory at the WOCE office. It's the report for Aurora Australis cruises au9501, au9604 and au9601: filename: big.doc WORD 6 document, IBM-type PC ftp'd as a binary file note that to see diagrams you actually have to print it out I've also mailed a couple of hard copies to you.
I've ftp'd the following 3 files to the INCOMING directory at the WOCE office: contents.doc - contents of data report a9404.doc - data report cfc_repo.doc - CFC report (unpublished document) Note: the 3 *.doc files are MS WORD documents (I ftp'd them as binary files - you can't see the graphs on the screen, but I hope they still come out when you print). I hope you guys don't mind doing the ascii dump part (I don't know what happened to these when I ftp'd them last time). I sent hard copies to Steve Diggs (that's the mail address I had at the time).
