Bottle: (tcarbn, qualt1, qualt2) Merged the TCARBN with surface values sent by Bob Key on March 1, 2006 into the online file 20030304WHPOSIOSA. Made new exchange and netcdf files. All files put online. Merged the TCARBN that Bob Key sent on March 1, 2006. The surface values for stas. 506-509,511-527, 529-543, and 545-551 had to be hand edited into the file. The salinities had 9 for quality, I changed to 2 and one 3 re Bob Key. See e-mails below.
I'll do the merge giving the surface samples a bottle number of zero. Back in the old TTO/SAVE days we used 99 as the bottle for such, but 99 was a Gerard value (before Neptune claimed them on P10) during WOCE. For those samples we'll have P,T,S,TCO2. I'll assign flags to the TCO2 and the new salt values. Hopefully, I can get this to you today. If not, it may be a couple of weeks As I mentioned, credit for these data goes to Helmuth Thomas and associated publications using this data are: Thomas, H. (2002). Remineralisation Ratios of Carbon, Nutrients and Oxygen in the North Atlantic Ocean - a field data based assessment. Global Biogeochemical Cycles,16 DOI 10.1029/2001GB001452. Thomas, H. and V. Ittekkot (2001). Determination of anthropogenic CO2 in the North Atlantic Ocean using water mass ages and CO2 equilibrium chemistry. J. Mar. Sys., 27, 325-336.

Remerged updated CFCs, merged TRITUM, HELIUM, DELHE3, DELC14, TRITER, HELIER, DELHER, and C14ERR. Copied QUALT1 flags to QUALT2 flags. Changed missing data from -9.0 to -999.0 for DELHE3 and DELC14. Put file online, made new exchange file a01ew (06mt30_3) notes: March 7, 2003 EXPOCODE 06mt30_3, WHP-ID a01ew Remerged updated CFC11 and CFC12 from file meteor303.sea and added TRITUM, HELIUM, DELHE3, DELC14, TRITER, HELIER, DELHER, and C14ERR from file 06mt303.sea found in a01/a01ew/original/1999.12.12_A01EW_TRACER_RHEIN_ARNOLD to online file 19990723WHPOSIOSCD. Changed missing values for DELHE3 and DELC14 from -9.0 to -999.0 Copied QUALT1 flags to QUALT2 Put new file online, made new exchange file. Sarilee Anderson

In my notes, the ch. sci rpt and your summary page it appears that C14 was collected for this cruise (204 LV + 60 AMS samples) Your cruise table indicates that you have this data, but it isn't in the data files. R. Bayer and/or B. Kromer should have been PI(s).
All exhange and WOCE formatted CTD files corrected, reformatted and placed online. Please see additional notes. CORRECTLY RE-FORMATTED ALL CTD FILES: This was necessary for the Exchange format conversion. Old zip archive of Exchange file only had one CTD cast (file): All old WOCE formatted CTD files with one exception had problems: Performed the following: - Changed all EXPOCODES to 06MT30_3 (no '/') - Changed all WOCE LINE names to A01E (from A1/E) - Corrected param header from 'DEG C' to DEG_C - Removed all double line feed characters - Removed all extra lines and ctrl-Z characters - Had to place NO_DATA values (-999) in NUMBERS column Code to rewrite files with -999 in NUMBERS column, remove dbl-lfs, and ctrl-z characters is called 'add_number_ctd.pl' and it in my home directory. Replaced both zip archives on website with correct ones, thoroughly checked with JOA3.0.
The following are results from the examminer.pl and plotter.pl code that were run on this cruise. Not all of the errors are reported but rather a summery of what was found. For more information you can go to the cruise directory, and look at the NEW file called CruiseLine_check.txt. Two plot files are also present. _oxy.ps and _sal.ps a01w_ar13_ar05_x_hy1.csv -> NO2 NO3_FLAG_W found without matching parameter Station #491 exists in a01e_a01w_hy1.csv, but does not have a corresponding CTD file. Station #492 exists in a01e_a01w_hy1.csv, but does not have a corresponding CTD file. Station #493 exists in a01e_a01w_hy1.csv, but does not have a corresponding CTD file A lot more of the same problem.
The bottle exchange file was made. The wrong file had been online until this date.
CTD exchange files were put online.
YES, ALL OUR DATA SUBMITTED TO WHPO IS PUBLIC !
Updated CFC12 and 11 have been moved to the original subdirectory of a01ew, into a directory called 1999.12.12_A01EW_TRACER_RHEIN_ARNOLD These data have not been merged, but have been entered into the "to be merged" table. By M. Rhein's email these data may be made public. Header information for the data file is embedded in an unformatted documentation file located in the same directory as the data.
Tracer data have been moved to the original subdirectory of a01ew, into a directory called 1999.12.12_A01EW_TRACER_RHEIN_ARNOLD These data have not been merged, but have been entered into the to-be-merged table. Data were submitted by Matthias Arnold. No relevant email was located, it is currently not known whether these data are public or nonpublic.
This file was moved from ftp-incoming.2000.02.14/ The file is already in the zipped, online CTD file, and appears to be identical except for format spacing. Path is a01/a01ew/original/1998.08.04_A01EW_CTD. File received in 1998.08.04.
I just put a01ew/02_06MT30_2-3.proc.notes in my shared folder. It needs to be appended to the end of the doc file for a01ew/02_06MT30_2-3 (pdf and text versions) in place of the notes that are already there. This should complete these doc files.
This has been updated on both the pdf and text versions of the documentation.
The CTD are now on the website and are unencrypted.

I wasn't the chief scientist on cruise Meteor 30/3. This job was done by Jens Meincke. I was senior scientist on this cruise and responsible for all hydrographic data. A cruise report is already published in Meteor Report Series (Meteor Berichte 96/3, Cruise No. 30, edited by K.-P. Koltermann, O. Pfannkuche and J. Meincke, 148 pp.).
Cruise "Meteor" 30, leg 3, bottle data processing. Because of the very limited resources it was necessary to deviate in some points from requirements outlined in WHPO 90-1. Otherwise different bottle data files ought to have been assembled according specific needs and specific computer software. Thus please, note the differences from WHP water sample requirements as described in WHPO 90-1 (section 3.3). Data are reported in terms of corrected samples, i.e. mis- or double trips in the CTD rosette are corrected. No serious rosette problems occured during this cruise. Clearly bad (wrong) bottle trips have been removed completely. Bad single measurements have been removed and marked by 4. Samples drawn from leaking (malfunctioning) bottles are not reported except values seem to be more or less reasonable. BIO denotes the Bedfort numbering system we used. CTDRAW is not a real raw pressure. The values reported are calibrated in our acquisition data stream (transformation in physical units (dbar)) and stored in the bottle data file. CTDRAW is corrected according laboratory calibration results (unloading courve) and pressure offset correction from beginning of profile. CTDTMP is reported in ITS-90. CTDSAL has been corrected with in-situ salinity correction. Standard Conductivity used was C(15,35,0)=42.914. OXYGEN has not been yet converted to UMOL/KG. They are reported as measured. Finally: if you find errors of any kind, discrepancies in the data, etc, etc, please contact me. As anyone else I would like to work with the best available version of Meteor 30/3 data.
