1. CCHDO recently posted the CTD data for this cruise (http://cchdo.ucsd.edu/cruise/74DI20040404)
2. Much earlier (2007) I had submitted a bottle data file
3. The new CTD data are nicely calibrated
4. I added interpolated CTDOXY and CTDSAL values (with flag of 0) to the bottle data file
5. This addition allowed further cleanup of the SALNTY and OXYGEN values (apparent pre/post trip problems previously noted).
6. Bottle file with new estimated CTD values attached.
Note for Jim Swift. By flagging the CTDOXY and CTDSAL values 0 (approximated by some method) this meets your goal of maintaining the “purity” of values flagged 2, but at the same time provides a clean data set for use with the other bottle data. We had discussed this issue previously, but had never considered this solution. Obviously, if you don’t like this solution, it is easy enough to change. Prior to running the interpolation I had subsampled the CTD data at 10dB levels.
As an aside, the recently posted CTD files appear (to my software) to be acceptable exchange format.
I added a very brief header note indicating the addition
Steven, the bottle data appear to be “good” relative to crossover and inversion (.006 for salt 1.0 for oxygen). Given that I think you can just mark the CTDSAL and CTDOXY values as “good” in the adjustment table.

Reformatting notes for carina cruise a05_74DI200404 bottle file,
submitted by Bob Key on 2009.01.27
Following edits were made to exchange bottle file units header:
-Edited DEGC to DEG C
-Edited DBARS to DBAR
-Edited PPM to UATM (for PCO2, as per Bob Key)
Merged TIME (as zero) into bottle file using merge_exchange_bot.rb.
Created WOCE format and netcdf files from exchange file.
Checked file with JOA. Exchange file would not load into JOA, no
error message given or reason found. NetCDF files opened and plotted
with no errors.
Created directory and linked files. Sent notes to Jerry.
This is a clean data set, but note when you merge that for sta 27 Debra's file has one more sample (deepest) than in the version of the bottle file I have.

Any additional notes are:
I don't know the line number nor the expo code for this cruise. The cruise was on the Discovery, in the Atlantic, along 24N.
In 2004, Stuart Cunningham led a section across 26°N in the Atlantic and Elaine McDonagh is leading a section across 36°N this coming May.
We are still finalising the data set and expect to submit to the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) in Autumn 2004.
The data obtained on this cruise are subject to NERC data management policy. The data set will be embargoed for one year from May 2004, and then available to researchers within the NERC directed programme RAPID climate change. Then from May 2006 they will be available to the scientific community.
