Notes on ALIZE 2 bottle data. June 7, 2010/dm - Exchange file notes: Received file 91002711_bot_hy1.csv which was prepared from Ocean Data View file converted from MEDATLAS 2.0 format received from IFREMER web site May 6, 2010. Following changes were made to 91002711_bot_hy1.csv for the new exchange file 35LL19910103_hy1.csv 1. Used parameter name CYANB for cyanbacteria with units NB/ML. Was called CYAN in French format posted on CCHDO website July 21, 2000, with units NB/ML. Was called Bact. in the printed report with units NB/ML. Was called PCEW in IFREMER website file with units "10+6 CELL/M3". Data in all 3 sources are the same. 2. Used parameter name PHYTOP for phytoplankton with units NB/ML. Was called PHYT in French format posted on CCDHO website July 21, 2000, with units NB/ML. Was called Algue in the printed report with units NB/ML. Was called SNCW in IFREMER websit file with units "10+6 CELL/M3". Data in all 3 sources are the same. 3. Converted Nutrient values from millimole/m3 to UMOL/KG using cvuwoce. 4. Converted Oxygen ml/l to UMOL/KG using cvuwoce. 5. Changed CTDTMP units from DEG C to ITS-90 per handwritten note in ALIZE_2 341-page printed data report dated October 1991. 6. Changed PHPH to PH. No PHTMP and no information on whether PH_TOT or PH_SWS. 7. Added DEPTHs = -999. No bottom depths given. Maximum sample depth ~2000 dbars on Pacific equator line. 8. Added made-up SAMPNO. No sample numbers or bottle numbers in either computer file. Printed report has bottle numbers but were not found until after SAMPNOs added. 9. Changed all flag "1"s to "2"s. 10. Changed SECT-ID from ALIZE_2 to ALIZE {SECT_ID,format,A6} 11. Changed Expocode from 35NTALIZE2_1 to 35LL19910103. 12. Changed parameter name "CPHL" to "CHLORA". 13. Deleted CTDPRS_FLAG_W and CTDTMP_FLAG_W. 14. Deleted "LOCAL_CDI_ID" and "EDMO_CODE". 15. Changed "CAST_TYPE"="B" to "CASTNO"="1". -Summary file notes: Following changes were made to the 20010919WHPOSIOAH file 1. Changed EXPOCODE from 35NTALIZE2_1 to 35LL19910103: Wrong ship code, data contain Legs 1 and 2. 2. Changed WOCE SECT from PR15 to ALIZE (ALIZE2 too many characters). 3. Changed EVENT CODE header to be right justified with BEs. 4. Changed filename from pr15_tsu.txt to 35LL19910103su.txt. -WOCE format (SEA) file notes: Made WOCE format sea file (35LL19910103hy.txt) from the new Exchange file. Needed for the cvuwoce units conversion. The file listed as WOCE format bottle file on the website from 2003 until now (pr15_thy.txt) appears to be the French MEDATLAS 2.0 format with the same data values as the one received May 6, 2010, but with slightly different spacing. -CTD data The CCHDO ALIZE 2 directory (called pr15_t for now) has a file named pr15_tct.txt which appears to be the CTD data for Station 108 only. It is not available on the website. The data set received from IFREMER May 6, 2010, contains a zipped file of CTD data. I will look into this later.
This is an RCS entry for the cruise PR15_t (35NTALIZE2_1 and _2) a NON_WHP cruise that was missed when moving cruises from NON_WHP site to the data website. A directory and index pages have been made for this cruise as well as station tracks. Status of this cruise will need to be changed from NON_WHP to PR15 in the database for it to be linked to the main website, however all infromation appears to be in database already. SUM: WOCE formatted sumfile. BOT: Unformatted profile datafile (PRES TEMP, PSAL, DOXY, PHOS, NTRA, NTRI, SLCA, PHPH, CPHL, CFC2, PHYT, CYAN) CTD: Unformatted at this time all stations included in one text file. DOC: No documentation exists for this cruise at this time.
This cruise was moved in its entirety to /usr/export/html-public/data/other/NON_WHP/CURRENT_METER/PACIFIC. It was determined it was a Current Meter cruise that was erroneously placed in pr15. Expocode: 35NTALIZE2_1
The folowing information was missing from the last update done on this cruise. Changes made to sum file are as follows: Headings WOCE WOCE to WOCE SECT CAST to CAST TYPE CODE to EVENT CODE Columns of data moved are 1-Woce sect 2-STNNBR 3-Event code Running sumchk on the Sum file, found no major problems . Error found with sumchk is as follows assuming depth is corrected. .SUM header was missing DEPTH_UN BOTTOMHT WHEEL_MT PRESS_MX
Corrected headings of the data columns. moved the columns arounds to fit WHPO format.
bottle data are NON PUBLIC. The rest of the data is public. However, I have not linked the CTD to the webpage because we only have CTD data for one station, therefore people should contact WHPO for the data.
Added the sum and bot file to the webpage. The bot file is unformatted and has errors. The CTD contains only one station so the webpage says that scientists should contact WHPO for the data. All data is public.
Yes, the data might be distributed publicly on the website.
I am sending you attached to this message the bottle data, and I mail you a report (in French, unfortunately), which I think could help you figure out what the data are. Contrary to what is suggested in the station data published for each station in the report, the temperatures are in situ temperatures (1990 scale). For some reason, the unit line is not included in the file I am sending you, and I hope that it is the final one! Pressure is in db, temperature in T-90, oxygene and UAO in ml/l, dissolved inorganic phosphate, noitrate, nitrite and silicate in microM, F-12 in picoM and Cl-a in microg/m3 (not a most standart choice of units!). Missing data are with a lot of 9 (you'll figure that out). At the end of each line, is a one-digit integer indicating whether the temperature was taken at the ame time as the samples (always from the CTD) or whether it corresponds to an estimated temperature based on the measurements during the earlier descent of the CTD (1). This had to be done in some instances. In some cases, both T and S are estimated from the CTD (at the time of the closure of the bottle) (I think this corresponds to 2) I would warn that the F-12 data are not very accurate, and that in general the data might not be of WOCE standards.
I might have forgotten to mention that the data are public and to be accessed by everyone. ALl my apologies for this error of mine.
