  • Bullseyes/don't match CTD values Dr. Lynne Talley

    Date: 2008-02-26
    Data Type: CTDTMP/THETA
    Action: Update needed
    Note:
I'm finding problems with CTDTMP and THETA reported in the bottle data file for A05 (1992 data set)
    http://cchdo.ucsd.edu/data/onetime/atlantic/a05/a05hy.txt

These cause huge bullseyes in density as well as not matching the CTD profiles at all. Since there are no quality flags for these parameters, they can cause big headaches. I suggest either replacing them with -9 or replacing them with the CTD profile values.

Station 52, bottle 3 should be 2.7423, etc. I checked the CTD profile for sta. 52 and there is nothing like a 0.7423 at this depth.

Station 38, bottle 14 CTDTMP and THETA are clearly wrong. CTDSAL is also bad, but it's flagged. (Of course there are no qflags for THETA, CTDTMP.) I think they should just be replaced by -9 and qflag of 9, or filled in from the CTD profile.

Corrected wrong cfc flags by remerging cfcs from a05_sea.txt found in original directory into online file. Made new exchange file, sent notes to Jerry.

Alex Kozyr noted (see e-mail below) that the flags for CFC11 and CFC12 were not correct. The flags were all 1s.

I found a file in the a05/original directory (a05_sea.txt) that had cfc's with "correct" flags. I did a comparison of the cfc11 and cfc12 values between this file and the online file. The values
are the same. I copied the QUALT1 flags to the QUALT2 flags for both files and then merged the cfc's from the a05_sea.txt file into the online file 2020821WHPOSIOSA.

    Note:
replaced the current online sumfile and bottle file with reformatted files produced by S. Anderson. Please note in addition to usual reformatting procedures, the oxygen values were converted from ML/L to UMOL/KG, however it is unclear and as yet unknown whether the nutrient units are correct or mislabled.
