This bottle file was part of the CARINA collection compiled by Bob Key.
CFC data converted to SIO-98 to match current convention. Metadata edited to reflect change. All times unknown and listed as 0000.
The pH values have been updated. This file was part of a batch of replacements sent as a tar archive.
Documentation
For Meteor 50_1 linear interpolation was used to fill in values for oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, silicate, phosphate, tco2, alk, and ph. The maximum allowable distance over which interpolation was allowed (i.e. max separation of nearest 2 samples) was the same as used for GLODAP. The deeper the sample, the longer the maximum separation distance. This was done because of the merge difficulties encountered with this data set. That is, the file actually has more data records than there were bottles tripped. The merge problem arose because incomplete records were kept by the various data groups. Because of the incomplete records I could not unambiguously determine which results went together (i.e. from the same real Niskin bottle). Most of the interpolation distances are very short as a result of the brute force combination of data records. If anyone can ever come up with a clean Rosette trip file with bottle numbers, casts, etc. then this cruise should be redone. Scientifically, the difference would be negligible, but it would be clerically much better. All interpolated values are flagged zero and consequently, can be easily removed from the CCHDO version if desired. This is a policy issue. I did the interpolation for the chemists, primarily. The rational is that a tco2 or alk measurement has little value without the accompanying vanilla data. Elimination of all the zero flagged data would have virtually no influence on any physical investigation. Including the interpolated values in a physical investigation would also have very little influence other than creating a minor bias in statistical analyses (due to increased "n" and similar). I think you can convince yourself of this by overplotting the zero flagged data atop the "2" flagged values using different colors. 5/13/05 Initialized README file Data from Kozry via CARINA site 5/11/04 Previously saved as met50sv...
