I have placed updated CFC values into the P21/original directory. These files were sent by D. Wisegarver on 2001.07.09 and are ready for merging.
Steve - Please make the following changes from non-public to public. All Jenkins Pacific/Indian data are public according to an email he sent 2/26/2001, hence P21 318MWESTW The He/Tr data were cleaned up by S. Anderson. So when you merge them, please make them public.
Bottle: (tritum, helium, delhe3, neon, triter, helier, delher, neoner) these data files have been ftp'd to Lynne Talley who will have David Newton merge these data into the current P21 (both P21E and P21W files) bottle files, and return to the WHP office.
It was brought to my attention that the WOCE Pacific/Indian He-Tr data was not as yet made public. After submitting it to you last year, I had intended on going through it one more time to ensure there were no problems with it. Unfortunately, I have not had the time to do this. Is it possible, therefore, to release it as public data, and if there are any subsequent minor revisions, to make changes? I suspect there might be a few samples in the set that might have got through our initial quality control.
2000.12.11 KJU File contained here is a CRUISE SUMMARY and NOT sumfile. Documentation is online. 2000.10.11 KJU Files were found in incoming directory under whp_reports. This directory was zipped, files were separated and placed under proper cruise. All of them are sumfiles. Received 1997 August 15th.

I have put the Jenkins tritium data into WOCE format. There were no quality codes so I set the TRITUM to 2.
I have put the Jenkins helium and neon in WOCE format. There were no quality codes so I set the HELIUM, DELHE3, and NEON to 2.

I have merged Alex's carbon data into P21. Alex sent TCARBN, AKALI, and PH. All have been merged. Station 39, although having strange ordering of samples didn't present any problems in merging Alex's file into the bottle file. Original WHPO bottle file had an FCO2 column in it, however, Alex's file contained pH. Therefore, I deleted the FCO2 column and added the pH.

This is a follow-up to last month's message requesting that all of our Pacific and Indian Ocean CFCs be made accessible to the public. Our cruises are; (Pacific) P17C, P1716S, P06E, P19C, P17N, P21E, and (Indian) I09N, I05W/I04, I07N, I10.
I have put a new p21_hy.txt file on whpo in /usr/export/ftp/pub/WHPO/S_ANDERDON. I subtracted the NO2 from the NO2+NO3 and replaced the NO2+NO3 with NITRAT. The units for the nutrients were UMOL/L and I converted them to UMOL/KG. I have attached the readme.p21 file which is also in that directory.
The data you sent match our original data which are in micromoles per LITER. The nitrate column is therefore undoubtedly nitrate PLUS NITRITE.
complete doc/data reports for dqe: gAnderson
The preliminary cruise report indicates you as the PI for the nutrient work done on this cruise. For this reason I'm directing these questions to you. 1. The file that I have shows the nutrient headings in per liter (volume) units. I assume these headings are correct. 2. The conversion from per liter to per kilogram units necessitates the density of the water as it was analyzed. I will be making this conversion, but need to know what salinity and temperature values you suggest be used. 3. There is a column of data labelled NO3+NO2. I assume this is also correct. After subtracting the nitrite data from this column, this column of data will be replaced by the nitrate data. This of course assumes that you don't have a more recent file that already has done this subtraction and has the nitrate data in this column. If an updated file exists with the conversion to per kilogram units and/or the nitrate data in the column presently labelled NO3 + NO, please let me know. I can advise you the best way to get this to the WHPO so the existing data file can be updated.
P21E (318MWESTW_4) CFCs from Rana Fine have been updated (merged) and are public. All tables and files have been updated.
I received the CFC-11/12 datasets for the following WHP lines: EXPOCODE 31WTTUNES/2 WHP-ID P17S,P16S EXPOCODE 31WTTUNES/1 WHP-ID P17C EXPOCODE 316N138/12 WHP-ID P19C EXPOCODE 318MWEST_4_5 WHP-ID P21E/W EXPOCODE 316N138/3 WHP-ID P6E Each file looks fine and has been placed in the proper archived directory on our machine so that they can be merged in with the rest of the values. -Steve Diggs I just ftp'd our cfc files to the /INCOMING/RFine_cfcs directory. The files named *.sea are hydro files with our final cfc values and quality bytes merged in. The files named *_cfcs.dat are files that include station, cast, bottle, cfcs and quality bytes. Please let me know if you have any problems and I'll let you know if we have any changes (hopefully not...).
Merging Notes are in usr/export/html-public/data/onetime/pacific/p21/original/P21_S.ANDERSON_REFORMAT/p21.notes
sta 163 was a test station, samples collected, ctd data not processed
Quality flags & CTDOXY values OnLine are incorrect. Will reformat the original BTL file instead and submit it for DQE. Original BTL file still has bad CTDOXY values, but quality flags are right.
There is a definite problem with the .sea file. Some of the data is shifted and it is not obvious what the problem is. If you look at sta. 79, 81-84, and 91 it is apparent there is a problem.
I have looked at the P21 bottle file and you are correct there is a problem. We are contacting the PI's to request that they resubmit a corrected version of the relevant stations. Thank you for calling this to our attention.
I just downloaded the updated (1998.7.31) and found some problems. Several stations, and even some bottles within stations have what looks like a different format. Column where salinity should be is a value that looks like Oxygen, and others are misaligned. Also these files do not have the original bottle codes, only the WHPO codes. (look at station 80, then 81-84... look at station 85-90, then 91 bottles 35-18). Before I update my archive here, I need some help figuring out which column is really which.
